The Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau offers a new training facility - modular tank crew training simulator.

The use of the tank simulator for the crew training with no quality training drawbacks as compared to training procedures on the tank directly provides the following merits:

  • Form efficient skills in the trainee's action;

  • Prevent accidents in the course of the tank crew training;

  • Exclude damage of fighting vehicles at wrong trainee's actions; due to saving the fuel, service life of fighting vehicles and ammunition;

  • Carry out the training both for the whole crew and individually for a driver, a gunner and commander on the individual base.

In the course of training steps the trainees can carry out the following exercises:

Tank Driver 

  • Pre-starting preparation of assemblies and systems; 

  • Start-up and warming-up the engine;

  • Operation with NBC system;

  • Driving the tank over training track with various terrain profiles, soil type by day and night time under different weather conditions including surmounting the obstacles;

Tank Gunner and commander

  • Preparation for firing from the main gun, coaxial and anti-aircraft machine guns;

  • Firing from the main gun, coaxial and anti-aircraft machine guns on the move and stop position by day and night time under different weather conditions;

 …As well as 

  • Study design, operation, basics of use and system maintenance , units and assemblies positioned at tank crew working stations; 

  • Exercise crew's interaction using the intercom means;

  • Drill the tank crew actions in case the systems, units and assemblies are in emergency state.

In training, the instructor can do the following:

  • Choose the exercise type;
  • Define initial conditions for carrying out the exercises;
  • Simulate emergency situations;
  • Control the trainee actions using the intercom and loudspeaker means; monitor and change the tank disposition on the training track;
  • Monitor the sights field of view and observation devices, controls position, condition state of light indicators and switches on the gunner's board;
  • Monitor and change disposition, number and image of targets on the terrain map;
  • Enter the database the trainee's actions on selective basis taking into account the mistakes made;
  • Reproduce the trainee's record actions on the monitor screen for making their analysis; 
  • Print-out the exercise results in the form of an exam sheet.

Technical description of modular-type simulator for a tank crew.

The simulator includes a driver's module, combined modules of a gunner and a commander, an instructor's workplace, a rack with built-in control system apparatus, a power supply, software.

Driver's module consists of the following parts:

  • Dynamic platform providing for the 3D-swinging the cabin;

  • Cabin simulating the driver's workplace therein with the operative controls, instrumentation, NBC, intercom means, observation devices and monitor for event visualization on the screen.

Gunner's and commander's modules consist of the following parts:

  • Dynamic platform providing for the 3D-swinging the cabin;

  • Combined cabins simulating the gunner's and commander's workplaces therein with the operative sight mock-ups, observation devices, commander's and gunner's boards, intercom means and monitors to provide visualization on the screen.

Gunner's and commander's module options are available ether in combination or separately with following mounting each of them on the individual dynamic platform.

Instructor's workplace is a working desk with 5 monitors and a manipulator of the “mouse” type thereon.

Racks with built-in control system apparatus comprise the following:

  • Working stations based on Pentium III processor 1GHz and video card in chip Nvidia GeForce2 designed for providing the operation of mathematical models and visualization;

  • Interfaces intended for matching the operation of mathematical models, instrument imitators and dynamic platform.

Software is configured on the Windows NT operational system and includes:

  • Functional logic model of the whole equipment;

  • Dynamic model of tank moving parts;

  • Dynamic model of moving tank on the terrain;

  • Ballistics model of the ammunition used;

  • Ballistic computer model;

  • High Fidelity audio models;

  • 3D high resolution model of road route situation with photo realistic textures of targets movement dynamic model and their 3D-models;

  • Visualization control model to provide displaying the sights field of view and observation devices accompanied by the realistic blast effects.

  • Control program of models interaction.

At customer's request the KMDB can carry out deliveries of various type of the simulators.
